Cornhill Training Course

The Cornhill Training Course (CTC) was started by David Jackman (who has just stepped down from being the chairman of the 9:38 Executive Committee) in 1991, and is a ministry of the Proclamation Trust.

The CTC has as its focus the teaching and preaching of the Bible. It is a one year full-time course (in London and Glasgow), which can also be covered part-time over two years (London only). Although the ministry training courses (click here for further details) have based much of their material on Cornhill, this year long course is much more in-depth, having much more time to cover the material and practice in preaching it.

There are courses based in London and Glasgow (Cornhill Scotland has recently started) and follow similar course content.

Course content

‘Teaching is interactive and practical, with group work, questions and discussion. The main ingredients are:

We study the Bible together

- Each morning begins with the word of God and prayer as a student gives an exposition.

- A series of in-depth studies of Bible books. In recent years these have included Exodus, Deuteronomy, Isaiah, Job, Romans, Galatians, 1 and 2 Timothy, James, Revelation.

- A course in Bible Basics, including basic facts about the Bible, the shape of the Bible, Bible history and geography, and a Bible overview to tie our studies into a proper Biblical Theology.

- A course in Old Testament themes.

We study principles of biblical preaching

- A foundation course in Principles of Expository Preaching.

- A whole-year course on Principles of Exposition, working at how to preach different genres of Bible book

We expound Bible passages

- In small groups with constructive criticism from a staff member or experienced minister

- In ‘gobbet groups’ opening up short passages of scripture to determine their meaning in context.

- In preaching groups where a student gives a full practice talk.

We study Christian doctrine

A course on Evangelical Essentials.

We take two practical ministry streams

Focussing on practical skills with help from visiting ministers with proven experience.

The CTC is open to men and women who have a passion and some gifting for Bible teaching.

Fees and Dates

The cost of the full-time course is £2550 (or £3240 over two years part-time in London). (Fees are for 2007-2008.) The course runs from September and follows an academic year.
