Are you a Christian in your final year in college or university? Have you ever thought of volunteering for Christian service before employment or further studies? Are you passionate about young people, church and community work? Do you love adventure and learning new ideas? Would you like to give up a year to serve a local church or Community away from your home?
Then iServe Africa is definitely for you!
“As one who has been involved with internship programs for over 15 years, I see great value in what iServe Africa is doing. The need to equip young Gospel workers has never been greater! iServe Africa program is thorough - combining ministry theory and practice as well as providing the best platform for young people to discover and use their gifts. It is the kind of program I would like my own children to undertake. I highly recommend iServe Africa.”
- Rev. Steve Maina, General Secretary, Church Army Africa
What is iServe Africa?
iServe Africa® is an Apprenticeship Programme organised by Mission Together Africa (MTA) with the goal of helping young Christian men and women to develop a deeper mission, vision and commitment to gospel ministry through participation in one to two year placements in a local church.
The programme links churches with fresh graduates in an apprenticeship model by supplementing the work of the local church and developing future workers in for the mutual benefit of both.
Why...
iServe Africa has three principal objectives...
To raise future gospel workers for the African church.
To supplement the gospel work of the local church and community.
To create a structure where fresh graduates can spend a gap year learning and contributing meaningfully to the Church/community.
What’s in it for me…?
This is an amazing opportunity to have new experiences, gain exposure local church ministry and a chance to explore the needs and opportunities available in gospel ministry all with a view to grow in your commitment to God and clarity for your future involvement in gospel ministry.
MTA will ensure that all apprentices get accommodation, food and a small stipend. We will provide ongoing training and support throughout your year as an apprentice. We will also help you in friend-raising in order to get others to support you while you volunteer.
iServe Africa gives you an opportunity to...
1. Serve God in a local area of genuine need.
2. Put your faith and experience into action.
3. Learn through new challenges in a cross cultural setting.
4. Test God's call and discern your future involvement.
5. Enable real spiritual growth in your life.
6. Receive great training, support and care as you serve.
7. Broaden your horizons - meet and work with other Christians.
8. Experience the realities of church and Christian project life.
9. Explore the opportunities available in gospel ministry.
10. Gain valid experience for your future career or studies.
“iServe Africa is a strategic and innovative programme that will buttress mission enterprise in African countries. That it equips volunteers with contemporary skills to take Biblical gospel to the nations is particularly welcome at a time when Biblical Christianity is facing huge challenges. I commend iServe Africa strongly.” Wanyeki Mahiaini, Philip Project London, Council Member, All Nations Christian College, UK and AIM International.

Carlile College / Centre for Urban Mission, Nairobi, Kenya | |
Please see www.crosslinks.org/who/mp_pls/williams/centre_urban_mission.pdf Carlile College is passionate about training men and women for Christian mission. Our greatest desire is to see the continent of Africa radically transformed through the power of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. More than half of the entire population of the city of Nairobi live in informal settlements, sometimes called slums. Carlile College opened its Centre for Urban Mission in the heart of the Kibera slum in 2003. The Centre offers a variety of training programmes for pastors and church leaders who live and work in the informal settlements. Our vision is to see the transformation of informal settlements through the ministry of the local church, so we are passionate about equipping Christian leaders to make a difference in their churches and communities. The Centre for Urban Mission seeks to take the context of the informal settlements seriously and has developed an approach to training that wants to both learn from and respond to the challenges of the informal settlements. We believe that it is impossible to engage seriously with the context of the informal settlements from suburbia. Carlile College and the Centre for Urban Mission welcome placement students from Bible Colleges and mission agencies around the world. We offer the opportunity for you to join our existing programmes for a term (or more) of study, focusing particularly on modules relating to mission and contextualisation. We recommend that all placement students join classes in the Centre for Urban Mission for at least one day per week. The reason that we make this recommendation is because we believe that by joining classes in the Centre for Urban Mission you will engage with an exciting new approach to theological training. The tools that you will be exposed to will help you to contextualise the gospel wherever God is calling you to work. In addition to classes in the Centre for Urban Mission, we can select other courses that have a special focus on Christian ministry in Africa and on African Theology. The Apprenticeship programme: Apprentices will be linked to the Centre for Urban Mission and to the Anglican Church in Kibera slum that neighbours the Centre for Urban Mission. A week will generally include Sunday ministry at one of the Anglican churches in the slum, some weekday ministry responsibility that would probably involve discipleship training or Bible study training and some teaching input received alongside formal students in the Centre for Urban Mission or at Carlile College. David Williams, principal of the college will probably act as mentor. Candidates: Ideal candidates will be graduates, have some ministry experience already, gifts as a Bible teachers and a sense of humour. Notes: This placement is ideally for 11-12 months, although this is subject to visas. 6 months could be a suitable duration. For this placement, the cost will be roughly £500 per month – a total of between £5000-6000 for a full year. The idea is that this is raised by a combination of yourself and your home church. However, if the money is the only barrier to you thinking about going, please contact Crosslinks, as there may possibly be money available through a bursary fund Please contact cjennings@crosslinks.org for more information |
