Linc Ministries - Longing to be a link in the chain

In recent years there has been a growing realisation of the amazing opportunities we have for world mission. Amongst others, Friends International (formerly ISCS) has been encouraging and equipping local churches to make the most of having the world on our doorstep.

Establishing International Cafes in various university cities has provided the Church with excellent opportunities for befriending and sharing the Gospel with men and women from many different countries. Wonderfully, there have been countless stories of people submitting their lives to Christ. In fact, if you were to talk to those involved in international work, it is likely they will mention the amazing interest currently shown by Mainland Chinese. Something else they might bring up is the issue of follow-up. ‘What will happen to them when they return home?’ This problem is compounded with the Church in China being predominantly underground (unofficial)!

The role of LINC Ministries
Our vision is to connect the people. By having people on the ground in China we seek to act as a bridge. We aim to link up Chinese converted in the UK with other local believers. This is not always a very smooth process since returnees find it hard to adjust. For others returning still keen to investigate the claims of Christianity we offer to meet and study the bible – and in time, we trust, feed them into the indigenous church.

You might have heard incredible reports about the growth of the Church in China. Huge numbers of dear people have indeed turned to Christ, but sadly the church is still relatively immature. One of the greatest problems is a lack of trained leaders. It’s true that there’s much they have to teach us about sacrifice and devotion to Christ; however, if we’re concerned to guard the Gospel as well as see the Church mature, then surely we should be doing all we can to support the equipping of a new generation of Church leaders. Our prayer is that a small strategic work amongst Chinese returning from overseas could have a profound impact on the growth of the Chinese Church.

From September 2003, LINC Ministries hopes to have a team of British (or 9:38) associates based in one of China’s key cities. Being one of the many CAN (Creative Access Nations) countries, members of the team will need to find some ‘excuse’ for being in the country. Whilst there are several different options, we anticipate that most folk will go in as University English teachers. Many have found that this way-in maximises ministry potential. Not only is it the least time restrictive (maximum of 14 hours teaching per week) it also gives the chance to do some student ministry. Whilst there is a need to be fairly low-key, the opportunities for evangelism are immense!

Wouldn’t it be great if some of the British associates returned to the UK to continue ministry amongst the Chinese. An increased number of China workers could potentially free up international workers to concentrate on other people groups. Just remember some of the Chinese living near you today could become China’s ‘John Stotts’ of tomorrow! When these dear people return to their motherland, having had a life-changing time in the UK, the work has only just begun.
