"Through Jesus we have access to the Father"
(Ephesians 2:14-16)
Access Initiative is a ‘Blue Sky’ development of St. Luke’s, Willerby.

Come & serve at St. Luke’s, Willerby, an evangelical Anglican Church with a desire to reach out to the whole community, build international links and equip young people for longer term ministry. We are pray that we might develop new, imaginative strategic ministries and provide ACCESS for all to know the love of the Father in Christ.
More important than our job description is YOU - we are looking for someone who loves the Lord and his people; seeking to serve faithfully through the proclamation of the Bible both with lips and life. The opportunity at St. Luke’s is a pioneering ministry and as a new position we can shape the ministry around your gifts, skills and willingness to develop and to be stretched rather than mould you into a pre-set expectation of duties.
Areas of church family life that we are looking to grow include:
Bible teaching - St. Luke’s have many opportunities both on Sundays (we are developing a new ‘graduates & 20-30 service’ with our sister church at an alternative venue):
Leading services – St. Luke’s is keen to grow in ‘every member ministry’ and if an upfront role
is appropriate for people then we look ask God to flourishing this. Preaching – as we grow together and gain experience as a team it would be great to explore gifts of preaching. St. Luke’s is a friendly and supportive fellowship to encourage this opportunity if desired. Sunday School - Being on a rota to lead a group. Starting off the joint sessions & helping with leader training. Focus Slots – tasty opportunities to help the family of God think about news items & world issues. We ask ‘Whose world is it anyway?’ and apply the Bible to our fast paced lives. Children’s Addresses - we like to think ‘outside of the box’ so there is a great opportunity to be creative and use our imaginations.
and during the week:
Men’s Breakfast/Women’s Breakfast – a new area of ministry that we really need help with. Each group has between 6-12 regular members. Friendship Club – a fortnightly group that tries to support and encourage the over 60’s with biblical teaching and fellowship. Kidzclub – we would love to develop an after school club for 9-11 year olds at our parish school with the Apprentice and Youth Worker team from our sister school Holiday Club – we would love to recreate a biblical ministry for children and families during the holidays Youth Work – Distinctive (11-13yrs) & Impact (14-18yrs) have a committed and creative lay team and there are great opportunities to get involved in this integrated youth ministry run together with our sister church.
Outreach & time off - Even at a small church where we need lots of help to take advantage of all the opportunities the Lord gives us we would insist on people guarding their life as well as their doctrine closely and so we would hope to provide good amounts of time off each week and look to each other for models of evangelism and outreach within the wider community
Development - St. Luke’s is growing and we are looking to serve the wider community. To help with this we are undergoing a thorough review of what we offer and it is hoped that you will play a key role in this ‘Blue Sky’ thinking and its follow through. The aim of all our ministries must be to multiply and grow rather than disenfranchise the rest of the church family
Training, Practicals & Administration - Training is a core part of our commitment and though ‘in-house’ opportunities will provide the core, ‘offsite’ facilities can also be explored. We have a good team of lay people to help with practicals and administration but a lay assistant will strengthen these areas considerably further realising the church family for ‘friendship evangelism’. This being said a servant-heartedness will not taken for granted so this part of the church family’s life should not become too great a burden
Access Initiative is a long term project at the heart of St. Luke’s but we hope to provide full subsistence funding and accommodation for someone to join us for 1 or 2 years from Summer 2008.
