About the Church
Grace Church Wanstead is a small church plant which started in September 2006 as a partnership between Christ Church, Leyton and St Helen’s, Bishopsgate, both of which had members living in Wanstead but commuting to church in Leyton/the City. Our vision is to glorify God by being a Bible centred, welcoming church family, seeking to reach out with the gospel of Jesus in the Wanstead area. Our core values are 1. Listening to God’s Word, the Bible. 2. Depending on God in prayer. 3. Reaching out with the Good News of Jesus. 4. Building one another up in love, growing spiritually towards maturity.

About the area
Wanstead is in East London at the southern end of the M11. Although relatively affluent financially, it is a spiritually needy area of c. 25,000 people. We estimate that less than 1% go to Bible centred churches in the area. It is increasingly ethnically diverse.

About the role
The aim of the scheme is to give the apprentice a taste of and experience in ministry in a church plant in a suburban setting. The apprentice will work closely with the minister, shadowing him. There will be opportunities to be involved in all levels of the ministry: evangelism and outreach, the children’s programmes and the many practical tasks involved in church planting.

Core responsibilities
The apprentice’s responsibilities will be worked out with the minister. There will be flexibility depending on the strengths, gifting and preferences of the apprentice.

Training offered
One day a week, either in private (supervised) study such as the Moore College Correspondence Course, or by joining a suitable local course (fees paid by church).

What is being looked for in potential candidates?
A commitment to the Gospel and to order their life according to God’s Word. An enthusiasm to get stuck in all aspects of the work.
